Adapted Artwork Bringing Traces of the Past to the Present

Story:

It was prepared as an adaptation using the motifs on the bedspread that Seher AYRAL used for her daughter's engagement dress, a double-sided specially woven silk fabric, which she worked on for her own dowry with the Turkish Embroidery technique and turned into a work of art by filling it with diagonal pesent.

Product Details:

The main material of the work is the silk fabric that Seher AYRAL bought for her daughter's engagement dress in 1994, specially woven on both sides. In 1965, Seher AYRAL enlarged and centimetered a motif she liked on this fabric and worked a bedspread with colored orlon threads using the Turkish Embroidery technique, decorating the entire main fabric. She used this work that she prepared for her dowry meticulously. In 1988, a special different bedspread was worked from this antique bedspread. In 2024, the second bedspread was also used to use its motifs as the basis for new adaptations. The motifs taken from the second bedspread and the main fabric of the first bedspread were transformed into a unique decorative cover by Seher AYRAL. All edges of the new work, which was worked to remain faithful to the original work, were made with corners and decorated with beads and sequins by hand. The back of the work is lined. On the front of the work, the motifs worked on the original work with the Turkish Embroidery technique and diagonal pesent were mounted on the new work with the applique technique. The edges of the motifs are hand decorated with beads and sequins.
