Entirely Handcrafted Antique Cushion Cover, Messenger Bird

Story:

During her time in Malatya, Seher Ayral established strong connections with her numerous Armenian neighbors, acquiring a wealth of knowledge about their own culture from them. One of these neighbors was her beloved Abla Meryem. Abla Meryem was a reserved young woman who disliked speaking much, but who constantly embroidered. She always beautifully expressed the intense emotions she couldn't express through words, using threads, motifs, and colors. Two works in Seher Ayral's collection, preserved in their pristine condition, bring us to Meryem's tragic story. Abla fell in love with a young man. The families accepted, and their engagement took place. He enlisted in the army. Abla heard nothing from her fiancé for a long time. In 1938, thinking of the man she was waiting for news of, she embroidered the "Messenger Bird" motif with the infinity symbol. The colors and patterns beautifully express the longing she experienced and the excitement of awaiting news... As in many embroidery pieces... When telling her story to Seher Ayral, she stated that she found peace only in creating these works. We remember her with love and respect. And we send our gratitude for the legacy she left behind.
